In response to a complaint from Quebec’s language watchdog, Montreal transit officials have ditched the anglicized cheer “Go! Canadiens Go!” from city buses, opting instead for the French “Allez! Canadiens Allez!” The change vividly underscores the ever-present tension over language use in public spaces.
