In a dramatic showdown at Kelly Lake, fire crews are defending homes as a rapidly growing blaze, driven by gusty winds, threatens nearby communities. Officials are closely monitoring the situation while residents brace for further chaos—a fiery spectacle nobody really wished for this summer.
The fire has now grown past Kelly Lake Road and officials will be keeping a close eye on the winds, which are expected to gust up to 60 km/h and will remain elevated overnight.
The BC Wildfire Service says an out-of-control blaze that has triggered evacuation orders near Kelly Lake in the province's northeast is not currently threatening the community but is growing in its direction.
