Recent reports reveal that average asking rents across Canada have dropped for the sixth straight month, with the national average recorded at $2119. Data show notable declines in regions including Ontario and Quebec, where rents fell by 3.5% and 2.5% respectively in March. This decrease reflects a broader cooling in the rental market, which could relieve pressure on tenants and signal a potential shift in housing market dynamics.
Ontario recorded the steepest rent declines, with combined apartment rents falling 3.5 per cent to an average of $2,327 in March, followed by Quebec’s 2.5 per cent decrease to $1,949
National average asking rent in March was $2,119—a 2.8% year-over-year drop marking six consecutive months of declines—though rents increased 1.5% from February, according to Rentals.ca and Urbanation data.
